Our mission is to feed Los Angeles, support farmers, and be a partner in equitable food systems.
Our vision is to have sustainable food systems that promote social and cultural activities benefiting low-to-moderate-income residents of Los Angeles while also supporting California small- and mid-sized farms and local small businesses.
KEEPING LA HEALTHY SINCE 1996.
Food Access LA, originally known as Sustainable Economic Enterprises of Los Angeles, is a non-profit organization that aims to build sustainable food systems, ensuring everyone has equitable access to fresh, affordable, locally grown foods. In 2024, the staff and board decided to update the name to better reflect the mission of the organization. What we all realized is that no matter the name, the work continues! Each week, our eight farmers’ markets across Los Angeles support small-scale agriculture and food and beverage entrepreneurs while improving food security in underserved neighborhoods. We successfully coordinate community development programs like Market Match and WIC while supporting California small and mid-sized farms and local small businesses.
Food Access LA also offers programs in nutrition education, urban agriculture, entrepreneur education, an online ordering platform to increase access, and other food assistance benefits. We recognize that long-term change requires a nuanced approach to the problems facing our food systems. We’re proud that our markets and programs work together holistically to promote large-scale food systems change.

Food Access LA is a 501c3 nonprofit organization. Our number one priority is to maintain the highest integrity and transparency with our financials, with a singular focus on maintaining the best quality programming we can offer.
We have several sources of income: farmers’ market stall fees, federal grants, county and city grants, foundation grants, event revenue, individual donors, and local businesses all support Food Access LA throughout the year.
Our most recent IRS Form 990 form can be found here and is required to be filed for all 501c3 nonprofits on an annual basis.
